‘Energy Beets’ set to charge California

A new project in California is turning to sugar beets as a new type of biofuel. The project, which will be based around Five Points in the state’s Central Valley, will feature a demonstration plant where the sugar beets will be used to produce ethanol.

Due to the beets’ high sugar contents, the hope is that they will produce roughly twice as much ethanol per acre than corn.
